– Basic Small Boat. Instructors demonstrate how to pilot a centerboard or multi-hull boat in calm waters. Skills taught range from responsibilities of the crew to preventing and recovering from capsizing.
– Bareboat Cruising. This course covers multi-day trips on 30 to 45-foot vessels. During moderate to heavy weather, participants hone their skills at handling emergencies, anchoring and mooring, and using auxiliary engines.
– Other topics. ASA certifies students in several other domains, such as celestial navigation, charting offshore passages, marine weather forecasts, and the use of radar.
